DESCRIPTION:Arts Engagement Youth Winter Camp in Carson City \nCreative Play Through Art\, Theater & Movement\nDecember 30\, 31\, 2024 & January 2\, 3\, 2025 \nFour fun-filled days of creative play through art making and theater activities\, and creative movement.  With teaching-artist Sofia\, the young artists will be introduced to a wide range of unique and engaging art activities such as mask making\, musical instrument making\, and much more.  And with teaching-artist Luis\, the participants will explore the joy of creative expression through character development and creative movement. \nArt Camp hosted by Sierra Arts • $80 camp fee • Registration through Carson City Arts & Culture \nCLICK HERE TO REGISTER FOR THE ART CAMP \nCamp Artistic Leaders \nSofia is a local artist and UNR graduate with a degree in Art History. Sofia’s interest in art was fostered with the help and instruction of her grade school teacher\, Mrs. Loftin. In additions to working for Sierra Arts as a resident teaching-artist in elementary classrooms\, Sofia spends her time making art\, hiking outdoors and enjoying the beauty of the Tahoe-Basin. \nLuis is a local artist specializing in theater\, dramaturgy\, playwriting\, and storytelling. With a passion for creating meaningful and impactful narratives\, Luis approaches his work with a dedication to engaging audiences through a variety of perspectives and artistic mediums. \nCurrently pursuing degrees in Education\, History\, and Acting at the University of Nevada\, Reno\, Luis integrates his academic background into his artistry\, enriching his projects with historical and educational insights. He has also worked as a teaching artist with organizations such as Reno Little Theater\, the Lake Tahoe Shakespeare Festival\, and the Sierra School of Performing Arts. \nLuis has performed in numerous productions in the community\, including The SpongeBob Squarepants Musical at Reno Little Theater\, Cabaret at the University of Nevada\, Reno\, and Evil Dead: The Musical at Good Luck Macbeth Theater. His talent and versatility as a performer were recognized when he was voted runner-up for Best Local Actor in Northern Nevada—second only to Jeremy Renner. Beyond acting\, he is an award-winning playwright and a recognized dramaturg\, earning a Kennedy Center fellowship for his research contributions. He has also been honored with the Grace Semenza Award for Drama and the Jim Bernardi & Bob Dillard Scholarship\, reflecting his commitment to growth and storytelling in the performing arts.
