Reception Date: October 25, 2025 1pm-4pm
Each day, whether we are consciously aware of it or not, we are being haunted: by the regrets of the past, by the anxieties of the present, by the uncertainties of the future. These specters quietly loom over our day-to-day lives not unlike a spirit, never physically present but always felt – even if unconsciously – in the decisions and outlooks we make for ourselves. During this time of year, as the amber leaves remind us of the summer that has now passed and the cool air foreshadows the coming of winter, we can reflect on the many things that haunt us. From investigating primal fears to identifying omens in common imagery, the artists in this Sierra Arts Members’ exhibition each share what it is that haunts them. From here, we can try to identify these fears and anxieties, try to find where they come from and what they mean. In a time in which we yearn to retreat from the unknowable and the uncertain, facing our hauntings head-on illuminates the darkness, revealing a path through the fear into understanding.
