When Rock Was Gritty
Photos by Robert Post
Exhibition Dates: May 1 – June 6, 2025
Reception Date: Saturday, May 24th from 8:00pm to 10:00pm
I was the night manager at a Deli down the street from a punk rock club called the Rat. My prep-cook/ dishwasher was the lead singer of a punk band entitled DMZ. He told me about the place so I checked it out and fell in love with the gritty basement and the
punk rock scene.
I started taking live shots of his band and soon others in both Boston and NYC. This was the late 70’s, early 80’s.
My work was published in local papers and rock magazines out of NYC.

I live in Reno Nevada and have for three years. My primary subject matter is the human figure. Although I do venture off on other subjects such as my carousel horses. I work almost primarily in oils and charcoal. My work is greatly influenced by my knowledge of art
history, its a syntheses of the artists that I’ve been most influenced by. Francis Bacon, Egon Schele, Picasso, Iggy Pop, and Rodin, to name a
few.
I began my studies at the age of six. My teachers would often complain of my drawing all over my homework. In the 6th grade I drew characters of Surfers and the Beatles for my amusement and for my classmates, it got me lots of attention. My brother-in-law was an artist for NASA. At 10 he began showing me painting techniques, which got me hooked. I continued creating until at 18 I received a work scholarship at the Academy of Art College in San Francisco and received an Associate of Arts Degree.
Since moving to Reno I’ve shown at the TMCC Main Gallery, Sierra Arts Foundation, Station 9, Reno Nevada International Art Show, Wild River Grille, Lieutenant Governors Office, Swill, Sparks Heritage Museum, and Artech.
I’ve also been teaching art in different mediums for the DJD Foundation for the Veterans living here. I designed and collaborated with the artists at Color of Neon to create a 8′ neon sculpture that spent time at Burningman, Sierra Arts Foundation, and at the Reno Public Market. Thank you for your interest in my artistic endeavors.
