Hidden Nevada – Photographs from Off the Beaten Track
by Dana Garrett
My work is about capturing scenes in Nature that are unique and unseen. For this collection, I chose to go off-road and find out of the way locations. These included 7-Mile Canyon, Virginia City, the Virginia Range above the Geiger Grade, Thomas Creek Trail in the Mt. Rose Wilderness, and Peavine Mountain.
I drive Jeeps that are very capable off-road vehicles, and I drive them responsibly (read this as slowly.). I am not interested in overly disturbing wildlife or damaging my vehicles.
I like to go where people aren’t. By off the beaten track, I mean locations where if I see more than a half dozen people over several hours, it’s too crowded.
I shoot both film and digital. I really like black and white as my inspiration for my photography derives from the work of Ansel Adams, and later Ed Weston.
