Chelsea Houston is a Reno-based artist, born in Maui, and has called many western states home. Primarily a painter, she often weaves elements of illustration and printmaking into her pieces. Human, flora, and fauna forms strike her most, both living and post-mortem: portraiture, skeletal studies, and captures of anatomy. Travels and transplanting have shaped her interest in life cycles and the stories within each living thing. She has exhibited work in diverse shows around the local Reno area and was chosen to showcase a collection of paintings in the Student Union for 15 months during her tenure at the University of Nevada, Reno. Her most recent contributions to the Reno community? The star-covered ichthyosaur banners lining downtown Reno’s Aerial Gallery and the terracotta and turquoise-painted signal box depicting Lahontan cutthroat trout swimming through Native American basket designs on the corner of Liberty St. & Wells Ave. (in front of Juicy's Hamburgers).
