My work is an opportunity to experience empathy. Whilst saturated within social media, the ‘other’ has become ubiquitous. Constantly, the ability to question and judge the authenticity of another is forced upon us through vague and shallow interactions. I source all of my images from social media to provide an initial and superficial understanding of the person. Through collage, I am allowed to layer objects that affect the placements of the newer ones, thus creating depth within the figure. The figure is layered, obtrusive, opaque, translucent, and sharply silhouetted but allows fluidity within the depth of the piece.
