Eric Brooks began pursuing his professional connection to the arts in 2000 as co-founder of the BirdsNest Co-op in San Francisco, CA. He and his partner focused on pairing emerging artists with alternative gallery spaces. In the first year they showcased more than 50 artists in 30 venues around the city. That experience led him to begin painting, using techniques learned from time spent in the construction field. Over the next 12 years Brooks began to produce a prolific body of work, participating in 44 solo and group exhibitions. During this period Eric was a member of Artist Exchange and City Arts Gallery in the vibrant Mission District and was featured in galleries throughout San Francisco as well as special exhibitions in Nashville, TN, Isla Mujures, Mexico and Edinburgh, Scotland. In 2011 opportunity arose for a semi permanent move to Edinburgh to work with The Forest Café, a non-profit that focuses energy towards art, education, and community. While there he was Artist In Residence at Kunst Gallery and curated the 8x8 Gallery. In 2012 Brooks moved to Reno, NV to help develop Valley Arts Research Facility, a community art warehouse. He continues to create new work, participating in 44 exhibitions, including several solo exhibitions including, I lie to you every day because I love you. - I used to be in love. Now I do jigsaw puzzles. Let’s just fuck. and Something more than time has passed here. The darkness holds you like canyons falling to light. A cowboy noir love story. He co-founded Art Spot Reno and served as Creative Director from 2014-2020. He continues to curate local and regional artists through the Sierra Arts Foundation, where he was Gallery Director from 2014-2018. His next major exhibition will be at St. Mary’s Art Center, Virginia City, NV. spring of 2020. The working title is: Burn it all, but be cautious amongst the flames.
