Laura Newman’s first collection, Parallel to Paradise, won the Poynter’s Global Ebooks gold award for short stories. One of the stories was accepted for the Huffington Post’s 50 Fiction Series. The Reno Gazette Journal included Parallel to Paradise on their “bucket list” of top books by Nevada authors or about Nevada. She is a many-time winner of the Reno News & Review annual Short Fiction contest, including another first place in 2019. Laura is a many-time presenter at the Nevada Literary Crawl. She is an Addy Award and American Marketing Association winner for her production of public service announcements combating heroin and other substance abuse issues in her community. For this work she received the American Advertising Federation’s Community Contribution of the year award. A bit of Laura’s writing managed to outrage the Catholic League. That was not her intent, but she loves a reaction.
