Rodney was involved in the recent renaissance of encaustic art ( an art technique using beeswax) for over 15 years. During that period, he developed new encaustic techniques, taught workshops and presented lectures and demonstrations at national encaustic conferences. His art and writing were included in four books on encaustic art. He was honored to be an artist in residence at two national parks, Petrified Forest National Park and Grand Canyon National Park. In 2016 he moved to Bishop, California so that he could spend more time outside, both in the Eastern Sierra and the nearby deserts and ranges. Immersed in natural beauty all around, he has collected images through photography. These images have become the basis for his new artwork using a non-toxic etching process called photopolymer etching that uses only UV light and water to etch printing plates. Using archival inks and fine papers he creates iconic hand printed etchings of the places that he finds sacred.
