Creating a Compelling Artist Bio & Statement
April 23 @ 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm
Are you interested in applying for an artist grant, exhibition, or opportunity, but you are stumped when it comes to writing the Artist Bio and Artist Statement? Have you wondered “What’s the difference between a bio and statement?” … this professional development workshop is for you!
During this training session, we will explore the two integral documents that can be the game-changer between winning an award and coming in second place. Learn how to craft an effective first-person narrative that compellingly illustrates your passion as an artist and creator, while targeting your audience by using strategies that are easy to master.
Those in attendance will gain an understanding on how to write a succinct, professional, descriptive statement of themselves as artists that they can use for websites, exhibition spaces, grant funding, teaching jobs, education applications, and other purposes.
Participants will leave this workshop with a solid understanding of what constitutes an Artist Bio and an Artist Statement, as well as a healthy start on both documents.
Instructor Jenny MacKay has an MFA in creative writing and over 20 years of experience as a writer and editor for publishers including Engage, Sage, Elsevier, Lucent Books, Human Kinetics, ReferencePoint Press, and the Journal of the American Medical Association. She is the author of 35 nonfiction children’s books and has taught college writing courses and many workshops on writing craft and professional development.
