Retro Metro is a series of hand colored black and white photos which commemorate the design and craftsmanship of the neon signage of days gone by. Award-winning Sparks photographer Mark Vollmer shows some of the stunning moments he’s experienced while exploring Nevada & The West over the last 30 years. From a Lake Tahoe sunset to ancient Pueblo ruins in New Mexico, and from the Great Reno Balloon Race to the alpine jewel of the Ruby Mountains, Mark's images capture the unique beauty of our western heritage. Local and regional artists have created a dynamic and diverse array of paintings, sculpture, and usable art with a unique Northern Nevada theme. Jonathan Farber uses Sharpie markers to create drawings that are rooted in a specific mark making style that can be described as patterns of redundant and haphazard scrawls. Farber’s concept of mark making is an intellectual amusement of infinity, as well as a meditation of time, space and thought. As an intuitive artist, “I Have a Hunch” best describes how I approach my art.  I am constantly striving for a lack of resistance in my work while keeping planning and preconceived thoughts to a minimum.  I approach creating in a spontaneous manner and allow my inner voice to make decisions on color, medium, titles, and marks on the surface.  This results in unfiltered pieces, which are honest reflections of my true self.
