Forty-some years ago, Gary moved to Nevada where he and his wife, Sally, enjoy mountain living and the outdoors. Always interested in wood, about a dozen years ago he began dabbling in wood-turning. Upon retiring from a career as an airline pilot in 2019, he expanded his woodworking studio, his portfolio of tools, and his skills. The result is Weichert Wood Art, where he is dedicated to exposing nature’s beauty by uncovering the anomalies of growth characteristics in wood. Wood is more than furniture and houses — it can take on any imaginable form as a beautiful piece of artwork, as well as for utilitarian purposes. The real wood treasures are found in the most unlikely places — gnarly root-balls, tumor-like burls, fungus-riddled old-growth hardwood, and everyday lumber cut in unusual ways. Natural flaws are intentionally incorporated as unique and interesting highlights Please visit WeichertWoodArt.net for his complete portfolio.
